Central or issuing bank of Spain. Its functions include putting legal tender into circulation, inspecting and creating regulations for credit institutions, controlling legislation on exchange control with regard to financial operations, and maintaining the country’s external reserves. It is led by a governor and an executive council. Currently, it must coordinate with the European Central Bank (ECB), responsible for the monetary policy and price stability of the euro area, as well as regulator and supervisor of financial entities with assets of over €30 billion.
